Welcome to Our 2020 Season
At last things are beginning to happen.
Keep safe, it will end eventually.
I hope you are all well and are navigating yourselves through the maze of tiers and Covid rules. Hopefully with the vaccination being rolled out now we will be able to enjoy some less fettered sailing and socialising next year.
Well Christmas is approaching, so for those who fancy another session of a virtual get together, I will be attempting to host a virtual pre dinner drinks evening on Sunday 20th December at 1800hrs. If you would like to attend then please let me know and I will send you a link for the event. Our Uzbek telephone technical support line will be available for anyone experiencing any difficulties on the evening, although they do finish at midday owing to time zone differences.
Look forward to hearing from you.
Virtual Laying Up Supper
Here is the eagerly anticipated update for the "laying up fish supper" this coming Friday 16th October. Other victuals are acceptable for those fish averse mariners or those without access to edible marine creatures. Whatever your predelections get in your gally and then join fellow PYC members for some amiable banter.
At the bottom of the page you will see a link which will attach you to "the conversation". You do not need Skype loaded, just join the conversation "as a guest" and you should be in the party.
Apart from a bit of fun and probably chaos, we are hoping to raise some funds for the Weymouth and Portland RNLI. If you would like to donate to this good cause, then please use the just giving link, also at the bottom of the page.
Please take some snaps during the evening and load them on Facebook so that we can make up another collage; and even though there are no prizes, the most captivating photos will undoubtedly be admired by fellow revelers!

At Home BBQ 23rd April
I hope you are all keeping well in these strange times?
It is very tough not being able to see your friends and get out on the water at the moment, so just for a bit of fun, we thought it would be great to have a PYC lunch time BBQ at your home on Thursday (the weather is looking good). Then take a photo(s) of yourself(selves) enjoying the moment and send to me via email or preferably post it on the PYC Facebook page with a suitable caption. The plan is then to make a collage for our website.
We are considering a virtual BBQ using "Zoom" in the future, but are presently testing the practicalities, so lets see how many photos we can get this Thursday for now.
Our AGM was be held on Saturday 8th February 2020 at 1800hrs in UNIT 10 (The old Apollo shop). This was followed at 1930 by Steve Moatts' excellent talk on his cycling adventures for charity. He raced the length of Great Divide Mountain Bike Route, from Banff to New Mexico, 2,745 miles of ultra-endurance bikepacking. He was raising money to build a school in Madagascar. The evening raised £200 for Steve's cause. Thank you.
This is what we did in 2019
December 7th Christmas Carols
We have again organised a lovely evening to get you in the festive spirit. Saturday 7th December 1830.
Everyone welcome for carols around the Portland Marina Christmas tree - sing along with the Weymouth Concert Brass Band, with mulled wine and mince pies to keep you going.
If the weather is wet, we'll carol away inside.
So we don't run out of pies, please drop us a note if you think you'll be coming along.
If you could also make the Saturday morning of the 7th December, we will be doing a Santa litter pick starting at 11am from the marina office, with lunch at Quidddles.

October 4th Jurassic Coast Trust talk by Sam Scriven
Our speaker is geologist Sam Scriven who is the Head of Heritage and Conservation at the Jurassic Coast Trust. His detailed knowledge of this area will provide an interesting insight for us nautical folk.
I am afraid you have missed this really excellent talk.

Every year weather permitting we have cruised to East Cowes, via various Solent hotspots and then caught the the ferry to and from the Boat Show. Afterwards a meal in the "Lifeboat" at the marina East Cowes, rounds off the day.

RNLI Discovery Tour 15th November
As you can see a good sized party went on a tour of the training facility at Poole exploring the RNLI College and its facilities. It included visiting the Sea Survival centre, to see the wave tank and lifeboat simulator.
It was interesting to see the members rocking back and forth in the lifeboat simulator, which does not move.A triumph of mind over reality. Most of us went to their excellent restaurant - 'Riggers' - after the tour.
Portland Marina Christmas Carols 8th December at 1830
It is that time of the year again so we went and sang our favourite Carols with the Weymouth Concert Brass Band . There was plenty of mulled wine and mince pies to lubricate the tonsils and keep up ones strength as usual. This year the glorious!!!!! weather forced us inside as you can see. No less jolly though and no numb fingers for the band.
